Maharashtra chief minister proposes empowered group to make Mumbai a world class city by 2019

The BJP-Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra has made a strong pitch for the  replacement of Planning Commission by the new National Development and  Reforms Commission in a move that is seena as a serious attempt to achieve ''Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas'. 

At the meeting convened by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with states, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis today said the proposed body should meet at the regional level, headed by the PM and the chief ministers.

Prescribing it as a problem solving body, Fadnavis  said it should take up regional issues and deliberate on central laws like Coastal Regulation Zones, Eco Sensitive Zones rules which come in the way of economic growth and employment creation.
 

"'As Mumbai drives economic growth of India, an empowered  group be set up to make up Mumbai a global commercial hub and it should meet every six months. Central ministries like ports, airports, railways and state agencies like Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority need to collaborate to solve infrastructure such as coastal road, trans harbour link, metro make Mumbai a world class city by 2019,'' Fadnavis said.

Further, the chief minister also called upon PM to provide greater drought relief as per package submitted to the Centre and pitched for higher and remunerative prices for cotton and sugar
