Haryana farmers get Rs 2,761 cr for wheat

The Haryana government has disbursed Rs 2,761.02 crore to farmers in the state in consideration of 3.248 million tonnes of wheat procured during the current Rabi season.
 
An official spokesman said here today that the Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (HAFED) had purchased 1.25 million tonnes of wheat and had disbursed a sum of Rs 1,063.92 crore and the Food and Supplies Department had procured 789,000 tonnes of wheat for Rs 671.16 crore.
 
Similarly, Food Corporation of India had procured 341,000 tonnes of wheat and disbursed Rs.290.12 crore to the farmers. He said the Agro Industries Corporation had purchased 324,000 tonnes of wheat and paid Rs 275.86 crore.
 
The Haryana Warehousing Corporation had procured 282,000 tonnes of wheat and disbursed a sum of Rs 240.02 crore, he said, adding Confed had purchased 258,000 tonnes and the payment of Rs 219.94 crore was made to the farmers.
 
As much as 3.609 million tonnes of wheat has arrived in the 360 wholesale markets of the state so far, of which 3.248 million tonnes had been purchased by the six government procuring agencies while traders bought 360,000 tonnes of wheat so far.
 
Meanwhile, HAFED today said it will sell "desi wheat" in packs of 25 kilogram under its own brand name from tomorrow.
 
Initially, the brand would be made available only at the HAFED's own select outlets situated at Panchkula, Delhi, Taraori, Faridabad and Gurgaon, the federation's spokesman said here.
 
Desi wheat was cleaned, graded and packed at HAFED's own complex at Taraori. It was moderately priced at Rs 17.50 per kilogram, inclusive of all taxes, he added.
 
He said the newly launched variety was procured from Gurgaon, Jhajjar and Rewari, which were traditionally known for growing C-306 variety of desi wheat.
