Hike In Excise Duty On Country Liquor, Imfl Gets Nod

The state cabinet today approved a hike in the excise duty charged on country liquor (raising it from Rs 45 per litre to Rs 47.5 per litre) and Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from Rs 125 to Rs 150 per litre.
Similarly, the license fees charged from distilleries, beer bars, wine shops, country liquor shops and clubs will witness a two-fold to four-fold increase, which is expected to raise Rs 155 crore additionally.
The increase in state revenue collections from country liquor is expected to net an additional Rs 25 crore from country liquor and Rs 15 crore from the IMFL segment.

In another decision the state cabinet decided to refer the recently sanctioned tariff hikes in drinking and irrigation water supply by it to the co-ordination committee of the Democratic Front alliance government in Maharashtra, following what is believed to have been strong pressure from sections of the coalition.
The cabinet also accepted several recommendations made by the justice Daud committee on the rehabiliation of the Sardar Sarovar project affected persons, including the one related to the cut of date for determining the project-affected persons, which was earlier set at January 1, 1987.
