The Karnataka government has initiated adequate measures to tackle the drought situation in the state and released sufficient funds for the relief work, chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda said on Friday.

In a letter to Opposition Congress leader in the state assembly, Siddaramaiah, he said the government has released Rs 85.25 crore for relief works on October 21 and already Rs 137.30 crore is available with the deputy commissioners.

“I have issued directions to officials to ensure employment in drought-hit areas, provide fodder for the livestock and drinking water to people in all the 90 drought-hit taluks. There is no shortage of funds for implementing relief works,” Gowda said in response to the allegation from Siddaramaiah that the government was not doing enough to fight the drought.

Gowda said he has already toured the drought-hit districts of Bijapur, Yadgir, Gadag, Bellary, Raichur, Gulbarga, Belgaum, Shimoga, Koppal, Chitradurga and Mysore in the last two months and reviewed the relief works.
