Kerala CM urges youth to be job creators

BS Reporter Chennai/ Kochi

TiEcon Kerala 2012, the two-day entrepreneurial event, was inaugurated here by chief minister Oomen Chandy. In his inaugural speech, Chandy urged youth to become job creators rather than being job seekers.

“For Kerala to emerge as a strong and vibrant economy, we have to transform our younger generation from being job seekers to job creators and that too within Kerala,” he said.

Though the state had a number of investment-friendly factors, its growth pace was low as compared to neighbouring states, he said. The government believes that the continued economic development and progress of the state can be achieved only through sustained entrepreneurial growth within Kerala, he added.

Ashok Rao, chairman, TiE Global, said innovation and entrepreneurship were the best way forward for Kerala. Entrepreneurship is a process or idea that can be transformed into goods and services, so that people will pay for them. Entrepreneurs energise innovation, create jobs, grow economies and create wealth. For entrepreneurs institutions matter. It is the government that creates the institutions, the public structures that support entrepreneurial endeavours.
