Kerala, the land of coconuts, is gearing up to host the world’s largest expo on coir and natural fibre products – Coir Kerala 2013 — from February 1 to 5, 2013 at Alappuzha.
Organised by the Department of Coir Development, Government of Kerala, Coir Kerala will witness international collaborations, buyer-seller meet, exchange of ideas and technology, display of innovative coir products from across the world.
Coir encompasses every facet of human life – from door mats to rugs, rubberised coir mattress, decorative rugs, tufted carpets and from geo-textiles and garden articles to wood substitutes.
This is the third edition of the event, launched by the state government to promote coir and its products. Started in 2011, Coir Kerala would provide ample opportunities for domestic manufacturers and overseas buyers to meet and interact on business, trading, joint ventures, strengthening of existing markets, establishing new markets, transfer of technology and technical know-how and widening of contact base, the Department of Coir Development said in a statement.
The event will also see international seminars involving policy-makers and opinion makers who will evaluate the current global market trends, innovations, opportunities and challenges in the field, research and development, among other things.

The Coir Kerala 2013 is likely to see participation from companies and exhibitors and delegates from over 40 Countries, opening up a world of opportunity to the Indian coir and natural fibre manufacturers to showcase their best products to the World.
It will create opportunities for companies/manufacturers to interact with key personnel from government as well as private agencies involved in the development and promotion of the coir & natural fibre sector. It will bring together the industry experts and technologists to share and exchange the latest research and technical information on coir.
The Kerala government is currently holding road shows across the country in the run up to the event.
