Madhya Pradesh government's ace scheme Ladli Laxmi Yojana has received more allocation in state budget presented in state assembly. In his budget the state finance minister Jayant Malaviya has allocated an amount of Rs 778 crore for the scheme which is aimed at empowering girl child.
The scheme was launched in 2006 with an objective to empower girls by making their future financially firm through improvement in their educational and economic status. It also aims to bring about a positive change in social attitude towards birth of a girl child.
Under the scheme, state government purchases National Savings Certificates of Rs 6,000 in favour of the girl with a cap of Rs 30,000 to cover her future educational expenses. She receives an amount of Rs 2,000 on getting admission in class six, Rs 4,000 in class nine and Rs 7,500 on admission in class eleven.

Under the scheme she is not married at 18, she would be given Rs one lakh in lump sum when she attains the age of 21. The benefits of the scheme are also available to those parents, who have adopted family planning after two alive children, and are registered in any anganwadi centre provided they are not income-tax payeRs.
The state government so far has disbursed an amount of Rs 3,142 crore to 1.7 million girl child, the minister said in his budget speech.
Also, he has made an allocation of Rs 111 crore in Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan and Mukhya Mantri Nikah Yojana to offer an assistance of Rs 25,000 in government sponsored mass-marriage functions.
