No new taxes in Madhya Pradesh

The Madhya Pradesh government, which is reeling under allegations of corruption, on Tuesday presented a "farm-oriented Budget" in the Assembly.
Finance Minister Jayant Malaiyya did not propose any new taxes and on the other hand reduced certain taxes. This would incur a revenue loss of Rs 419 crore to the state exchequer. The government endorsed goods and service tax and expected "a fair treatment and protection from the Centre in this matter".
