M V Hospital opens diabetes clinic in Hyd

Chennai-based M V Hospital for Diabetes has opened its first diabetes clinic in Hyderabad. The Hyderabad clinic, is the second clinic that the hospital has started after the first one in Bangalore.
The MV Hospital for Diabetes is a 50-year-old speciality hospital located in Chennai and is renowned for treating patients with diabetes and its complications.
Addressing a press conference, A Ramachandran, managing director of the hospital, said, "In our country, about 12 per cent of the population above the age of 20 has diabetes. And it is higher for Hyderabad at 16 per cent. And these numbers are growing steadily. Taking into account the high prevalence in the city, M V Hospitals have decided to open a specialised diabetics clinic called, 'M V Diabetes Clinic, Hyderabad'," he said.
The hospital has invested Rs 1.2 crore on the clinic, which would cater to all the needs of a diabetic patient under one roof.
The clinic would have specialised departments which include a diagnostic laboratory, eye department for treatment of diabetic eye treatment, foot care laboratory, department of nutrition and dietetics and a department for diabetes education and counselling.
Giving details about the departments, Vijay Viswanathan, joint director of M V Hospitals said, "These departments have been created taking into account the 'diabetics case model' that we have prepared at the Chennai hospital. Under this model each patient will be monitored and attended to by a team of doctors from the various departments."
Viswanathan said a patient can undergo tests for kidney, eye, heart and foot, as all these parts feel the affect of diabetes, for about Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500.
Ramachandran said that the clinic would have trained diabetologists from Chennai and also a few from the city.
Giving details about the reason for diabetes being so prevalent in the country, Ramachandran said, "The disease is so high in the country due to the sedentary lifestyle and the high fat food in-take by people in urban areas."
