After the launch of the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in case of a few services, Mysore will go in for DBT for the domestic LPG from February 15. DBT for LPG cylinders is being launched as a pilot in the city.

LPG supply agencies are now busy enrolling their customers with their Aadhar numbers to ensure that the subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders is credited to their bank accounts.

Disclosing this at a meeting of the representatives of state-owned oil companies in Mysore on Wednesday, Union Finance Ministry’s Joint Secretary Neeraj Mittal said that the project for LPG cylinders will be launched across 51 districts. Mysore district will be the first among them. This was because Mysore had achieved a good coverage in Aadhar enrollment. It stood at 95 per cent UID of the district’s population, said Hindustan Petroleum distributor in Mysore Mehul J Patel.

After the launch of the scheme, all domestic LPG consumers in the district will get LPG cylinders at the market price, he said. The subsidy part of the price will be transferred to their respective bank accounts.

To avail of the subsidy amount, domestic consumers must possess an Aadhar card and attach the copy of the same to their gas consumer card (DGCC blue book) or recent LPG receipt/bill to a copy of the Aadhar letter. The same should be submitted to the LPG distributor at the earliest to avoid last minute rush, the last being February 15, he said. Address proofs can be a photocopy of any one of the following: Aadhar (UID) letter, lease agreement, telephone or electricity bill or any other utility bill, flat allotment or possession letter, LIC policy, driving licence, voter ID, passport, ration card or house registration document and the declaration should be attested by a gazetted officer.

Those who do not have Aadhar number or letter should visit the nearest enrollment centre and produce the same to their concerned agency to avail the benefit. Failing this, they will have to pay the commercial price. Similarly, those who do not have a bank account, should open an Aadhar-linked account so that the subsidy amount could be transferred to their account.

The distributors pointed out, while discussing the problems likely to arise during the implementation of the scheme, that only 75 per cent of the district’s LPG consumers had been registered under Aadhar. This shows that 25 per cent more of the domestic LPG consumers are yet to be registered.

Patel suggested immediate steps to create awareness among the unregistered, particularly for those living in villages on the city’s outskirts. Village level Aadhar centres are being set up for their convenience.

A suggestion was also made for online entries by the ministry to ease the pressure on the distribution centres.
