Package for Guj flood hit units

The Gujarat government has announced a relief package for the flood affected industrial units and trade establishments. Under the revival plan, the state government has decided to offer interest subsidies to the flood affected business entities.

The units based in any of the flood affected areas, declared by the government will be eligible to avail the benefits of the plan.

A senior official in the office of commissioner of the industries said, "Eligible industrial unit will get interest subsidy of four per cent on the loan for the amount up to Rs 20 lakh. Similarly, a trading set up can avail the industrial subsidy up to Rs 10 lakh. However, the banks and financial units may approve and disburse loans over the limits prescribed by the state government if it suits them. "

The state government had declared about 2,100 villages flood affected following incessant rain and heavy losses to the industry and various other sectors in the state last month. The DIC based in each districts can be approached by the eligible units to avail the benefits of the plan.

Meanwhile, the industries commissionerate is not sure about the funds that the state government will have to shall out from its pocket. "We will learn about the total claims only once the proceedings will be completed by,"said the official said.

It may be mentioned here that the state government had estimated losses of Rs 3690.72 crore to the industries and mines.

The representatives of the Gujarat Industries Development Corporation, Gujarat State Finance Corporation and Gujarat Sales Tax Department had conducted a survey in association with local District Industrial Centers (DIC) to estimate the losses of industrial activities.
