Petro prices may dip in Maharashtra

Press Trust Of India Mumbai
Petrol and diesel prices in Maharashtra may come down by up to Re 1 a litre, with the state responding positively to the petroleum ministry's call to state governments for not levying sales tax on the incremental component of the prices.

"I have spoken to the Maharashtra CM. He has, in principle, shown positive response. But, before this price cut materialises, the proposal has to be passed by the state Cabinet," Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said.

If the proposal gets a clearance from the state Cabinet, the price of petrol will be reduced by Rs 1-1.25 a litre and that of diesel by 60 paise, Petroleum Secretary MS Srinivasan said.
