Powergrid gets NLD licence

Our Economy Bureau New Delhi
Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has obtained a national long distance (NLD) licence from the department of telecommunications.

An agreement for this was signed on July 5 between senior officials of PGCIL and DoT in New Delhi, a release said.

The licence will allow the company to explore more options and opportunities in customer segments, increase customer base and provide value added services to customers.

PGCIL plans to provide services to various corporate and government agencies immediately.

The licence would also enable PGCIL to address the bandwidth requirement of corporate customers who could not be serviced under the present IP-II, IP-I and ISP Licenses.

It is thought that the new licence will result in increased utilisation of PGCIL's telecom network.

The company is also considering allowing hospitals and the entertainment industry use its existing bandwidth for services.
