Preventive arrests of Sena, MNS workers

BS Reporter Mumbai

Mumbai Police have started making preventive arrests of activists of the Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena ahead of the opposition-sponsored Bharat Bandh tomorrow.

The Congress-led government in Maharashtra says it will be firm on those damaging property, with prosecution and recovery of damages. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told Business Standard: “Police have been instructed to deal firmly against those responsible for creating disturbance and damage.”

The Shiv Sena and MNS said they were undeterred by the preventive arrests and would ensure the bandh’s success. They hit at the state government for the preventive arrests. “People are with us to protest against the exhorbitant hike in cooking fuel and kerosene and also in auto fuel. The Congress government stands exposed on its aam admi plank,” Sena sources said.
