Rs 227 cr for 'golden jubilee villages'

| Forty-five chosen villages will be developed as 'golden jubilee villages' in all the seven taluks of Mysore district under a Rs 227-crore action plan. |
| Voluntary agencies are associated in the implementation of the plan drawn up as part of the golden jubilee of the formation of the Karnataka state. The plan was launched on May 26 in Mysore. |
| The state government has already released Rs 6.60 crore of the approved Rs 47.60 crore programmes in the present year and if the departmental grants of the present year are taken into consideration, the total amount thus released for rural development will reach Rs 100 crore. |
| Further department-wise demands for the rest of Rs 127 crore will be made to the government through the Mysore Zilla Panchayat. |
| Six villages are selected in Mysore taluk for the comprehensive development at Rs 36.37 crore plan drawn up by the Myrada Development Institution. The government has fixed Rs 6.4 crore for the purpose. Myrada has also drawn up a plan for Periyapatna taluk covering five villages for Rs 30.12 crore. |
| The tourist town of Somanathapur is among the seven villages in T Narasipur taluk proposed under the Rs 17.83 -crore plan drawn up by Mythri Rural Development, another NGO. |
| The government has fixed Rs 5.97 crore for the same. Another voluntary body, the Rural Development Organisation, has drawn up a Rs 36.34-crore plan for six villages of Hunsur taluk, with Rs 6.10 crore government approvals. |
| Similarly, another well-known NGO, the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement has drawn up the plan for H.D.Kote taluk costing Rs 28.56 crore for nine villages, for which the government's green signal is for Rs 7.08 crore. |
| The Comprehensive Rural and Development Institution is associated with KR Nagar taluk. It has drawn up a Rs 30.88-crore plan for five villages, which has received Rs 5.80 crore approvals from the government. |
