Surat textile traders seek arrest of Agrawal

Our Regional Bureau Surat
Some textile traders in Surat have urged the local police to expedite the arrest of Suresh Agrawal, managing director of the now-defunct Kunvar Ajay group. They allege that Agrawal was hiding in Delhi.

Agrawal allegedly owes the textile traders Rs 17 crore.

A delegation of Poonam Industries Lender Samiti (PILS), a group of people allegedly duped by Agrawal, met commissioner of police Sudhir Sinha in this regard on Saturday.

"Suresh Agrawal owes approximately Rs 17 crore to more than 450 textile traders of Surat. A complaint, accusing Agrawal of committing fraud to the tune of Rs 1.79 crore was lodged with police by some traders on April 1 last year. Immediately after this, the accused disappeared from Surat with his family," said Satish Agrawal, president, PILS.

"The police conducted raids at several places in the country, but he could not be found. Now we have come to know that Agrawal, and his family are living in Delhi. We have also learnt about the school Agrawal's sons have been admitted to recently," he said.

He said hundreds of textile traders were caught in financial problems due to fraud committed by Agrawal. "We have requested commissioner Sinha to take steps to arrest Agrawal at the earliest, so that the victim traders can recover their money from him," he added.
