UP power body for 'double metering'

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has directed officials to start double metering heavy subscribers, including ice factories and cold storage to check power theft.

This will help in keeping a tab on chances of tampering of metres to minimise power theft in big establishments, Corporation Chairman Ashok Kumar Khurana said in a release issued yesterday.

He said the consumption by ice factories and cold storage units had increased from the corresponding period last year.

"A double-metering initiative in the Saharanpur area had produced positive results," he said.
