USIEF calls for entries for Fullbright-Nehru scholarships

BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad

The US-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) is inviting applications from Indian students for the Fullbright-Nehru Scholar Orientation for 2013-14. The Fullbright programme supports educational and cultural exchange between the people of the US and other countries with a goal of promoting mutual understanding.

“We have started taking applications for the year 2013-14 and the last day for the applications will be July 16,” Adam J Grotsky, executive director, USIEF, told mediapersons here on Monday. With the support from Indian and the US governments, 177 Indians will participate in the Fullbright programme this year.

Since its inception in 1950, USIEF had so far administered over 8,900 Fullbright fellowships to Indians and Americans. In 2008, the governments of both the countries had doubled the student intake to strengthen the educational exchanges between the two countries, he added.

Fullbright-Nehru scholarships are given to students from across disciplines, including agriculture, economics, education, energy, environment, international relations, management and leadership development, media and communications, public administration, public health and science and technology.

A three-day pre-departure orientation for Fullbright scholars (2012-2013) is being organised in Hyderabad till May 15.
