The week-long heavy rains have left with more than Rs 200 crore in damages in Visakhapatnam district. The losses were seen across R&B properties, panchayat roads, minor irrigation, crops loss in about 30,000 hectare, drains and drinking water sources in Greater Visakhapatnam Corporation, Bhimili and Anakapalli municipalities.
In Visakhapatnam city, the loss to the corporation's properties was around Rs 40 crore. Anakapalli and Bhimili municipalities have sought more than Rs 5 crore to take up restoration of roads and drainages, said district revenue sources.
The irrigation department has requested the district collector to release about Rs 7 crore for immediate repairs. Agri crops like paddy, sugarcane and horticulture were affected in more than 30,000 hectare.

The Visakhapatnam railway division has also lost more than Rs 10 crore revenues as a number of trains were cancelled and cargo train movement was affected in Kothavalasa-Kirandol, a senior official of the Waltair Division said.
The state road transport corporation (APSRTC) incurred losses on account of cancellation of bus services to rural areas. More than 20 sub stations were affected in the Eastern Power Distribution Corporation limits and property losses are estimated to be Rs 1 crore.
