Volvo expects 50% growth in 2009 boosted by govt schemes

Volvo Buses India today said it is expecting 50 per cent growth in sales this year on the back of government schemes and incentives.     

"We sold 400 units last year, this year we expect to sell around 600 units..Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) project has huge potential for our growth," Volvo Buses India Pvt Ltd Managing Director Akash Passey told reporters on the sidelines of the SIAM annual convention here.

On the progress of JNNURM, under which the government has sanctioned the purchase of 14,695 buses for the various mission cities, he said, "We have been able to deliver around 150 units as of now. The total number of units to deliver is around 450 and we will be able to deliver it very soon". 

 

The company is also planning to enter eight more cities for its City buses.

"We are present in four cities right now, we plan to take it to another eight cities by the end of this year, particularly in north India," he said.

The company is also working on introducing sleeper coaches during the current year, he said further.

"Sleeper coaches is the segment which we are currently working on. We have done a lot of study on it and hopefully we will introduce it during the current year," Passey said.
