Press Trust Of India Thiruvananthapuram
As Kerala goes to poll on Thursday, a 139-year-old law institution in the capital city has reason to cheer, as about 10 of its alumni are in the fray as candidates of various political parties.

Union Minister and IUML veteran E Ahamed, seeking his seventh innings in Parliament from the northern district of Malappuram, is the senior most among the candidates, who traces their educational roots to the Government Law College.

After his graduation from GLC in 1961, Ahamed practiced in the high court in Kochi and district court in Thalassery before entering politics.

His cabinet colleague Kodikkunnil Suresh, who is contesting from Mavelikkara constituency, is also a former student of the college.

The sprawling campus in the heart of the city is also the alma mater of LDF's A Sampath and UDF's Bindhu Krishna, rival contestants trying their luck from Attingal constituency. Sampath has also the credit of serving the college as a teacher for some time before joining politics. LDF's Palakkad candidate MB Rajesh, RSP's candidate in Kollam NK Prema Chandran, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate in Thiruvananthapuram Ajith Joy are also among the list of alumni of this prestigious institution.
