A phone line to blow the whistle

Manappuram Finance Limited (MFL) has introduced a help line that allows customers, vendors, employees and investors to blow the whistle.
According to I Unnikrishnan, managing director, the service was part of its plans to set up an independent vigilance system by a third party agency, to ensure greater transparency in its operations. It was established in partnership with KPMG.
He said the help line service would serve as an avenue for customers of the company and other stake holders such as investors, vendors and employees to notify any unethical or fraudulent practices or conduct indulged within the company.
The service would be available in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali. Any stake holder can access the help line service through e-mail, telephone, mail and fax, and the system would maintain the confidentiality of the identity of informants.
The company has already established a vigilance and fraud preventive mechanism staffed by its own employees. The idea of roping in KPMG for vigilance operations has been introduced given that a third party can provide better transparency and credible service.
