After female employees in public sector banks, those women working for public general insurers including Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), New India Assurance, National Insurance, Oriental Insurance and United India Assurance will also be given an opportunity to be placed near their family.

In a communication to the LIC chairman and all CMDs of public sector insurance companies, the ministry has said that when female employees (married or unmarried) are transferred/placed away from their husband or parents, they develop a feeling of insecurity. The ministry said that when they are in such distant locations, they face a genuine hardship.

Keeping this in view, the ministry has asked all these insurers to accommodate as far as possible, placement/transfer requests of married/unmarried female employees at a place where their husband/parents are stationed. They have also been told to frame a policy on the same.

In August, a similar directive was given to public sector banks with respect to their female employees.
