Re slips to 43.77/$, gilts decline

The spot rupee, which touched a low of 43.86 per dollar in intra-day deals, finished on a weak note at 43.77 per dollar as against the previous close of 43.73 per dollar.

Sentiment was bearish in the government securities market today.

Even as the inflation for the week ended January 1 was lower at 5.78%, the market failed to rally due to high oil prices.

While prices of long-term securities fell by 35-40 paise, short and medium-term  gilts declined 15-20 paise.

Yield on the 10-year, 7.38% 2,015 bond closed higher at 6.64%.

Call rates closed around 4.75%, and reverse repo bids totalled Rs 14,000 crore.
