Indian Railways will forgo around Rs 1,490 crore in revenue, refunding the amount for cancelling 9.4 million ticket bookings made by passengers before India was locked down to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Top Railways officials told PTI that an amount of Rs 830 crore will be refunded for 5.5 million bookings made for travel between March 22 and April 14. The Railways had largely suspended its passenger train services on March 22, three days before the 21-day lockdown came into force.
