Cotton output up

This season, cotton output is expected to touch 2.7 million bales, compared to last season's production of 2.4 million bales.
 
Stating this here today, Punjab Agriculture & Animal Husbandry Parliamentary Secretary Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said this increase in cotton output had been possible due to the timely availability of canal water at the time of sowing in April, availability of good-quality seeds of various hybrids and varieties, concerted efforts in transferring the crop production technology to the farmer through training camps, surveillance of insects, pests and diseases to guide the farmers regarding attack of various insects and pests etc
 
Randhawa further said that during this season the cotton crop has been sown in an approximately area of 6.18 lakh hect. across the State as compared to the area of 5.57 lakh hect. last year.
 
In addition to it, farmers in the state are shifting from certified seeds to hybrid seeds including. Bt cotton.
