Buying in the IT and oil & gas stocks have helped the Sensex to cross the psychological 17k mark. The index touched a high of 17,031 and is now at 17,018, up 375 points.
The NSE Nifty is now at 5,047, up 101 points.
TCS and SBI have advanced around 4% each to Rs 582 and Rs 2,141, respectively.
ITC and Reliance Infrastructure have increased over 3% each to Rs 257 and 1,333, respectively.
Reliance, Wipro, Infosys and Sun Pharmaceuticals are up over 2.5% each.
Reliance Communications has slipped 1.5% to Rs 245 and Hero Honda is down below 1%.
