Unichem Lab gains on USFDA nod for hypertension drug

Unichem Laboratories has moved higher by 5% to Rs 291, bouncing back 7% from intra-day low on the BSE, after the company announced that it has received final abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Irbesartan tablets USP.

Irbesartan is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents, Unichem Laboratories said in a press release.

Irbesartan Tablets 75mg, 150mg and 300mg are therapeutically equivalent to AVAPRO® Tablets 75mg, 150mg and 300mg from Sanofi Aventis US, LLC.

The product will be commercialized from Unichem’s Ghaziabad plant. Active pharmaceutical ingredient i.e. Irbesartan used for this ANDA is also made in house at Pithampur plant.

At 01:17 PM, the stock was up 3.5% at Rs 285 on the BSE. It touched an intra-day low of Rs 273 in early morning trade. A combined 287,824 shares have changed hands on the counter on the BSE and NSE so far.
