Bihar polls: 12.13 percent voter turnout till 9 a.m.

A voter turnout of 12.13 percent was recorded till 9 a.m. on Sunday in the fourth phase of the Bihar Assembly polls.

The first time in the current polling, clashes were reported between police officials and voters outside booth number 50 in Sheohar. The Bihar Police had to resort to baton charge.

A total of 776 candidates are battling for 55 seats across seven districts - West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Gopalgunj and Siwan.

Voting has already taken place for 131 seats in the earlier phases.

Meanwhile, campaigning for the fifth and final phase of the elections has intensified.

Leaders of both NDA and grand alliance are making extensive tours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address three election rallies in Madhubani, Katihar and Madhepura today.

 

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad are scheduled to address a series of meetings in support of Grand Alliance.

The last phase is scheduled for November 5, for the remaining 57 seats.
