A racist quip made by new actress Rakhee Thakrar's Pakistani character, Shabnam Masood, on BBC soap opera 'EastEnders' has offended and left many viewers in a state of shock.

In the episode, Shabnam told her father Masood that dating a white woman, Carol Jackson, wasn't right for him, Metro.co.uk reported.

While one viewer tweeted that Shabnam's racist comment was shameful for the EastEnders' production team, another said that Shabnam's line is like Jackson saying she doesn't want to go out with Masood because he's black.

The comment also over shadowed Natalie Cassidy's fictional character Sonia Fowler's highly anticipated return to the show.
