Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said that he is working on reform programmes for the football governing body despite quitting from the top post.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening from FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Blatter said that he had a good, constructive meeting with Audit and Compliance Committee independent chairman Domenico Scala to establish a framework for action and a timetable and was pleased to take advice and guidance from him, the BBC reported.

He said that he wants a comprehensive programme of reform and he was very aware that only the FIFA congress could pass these reforms.

Blatter's statement comes after chaotic nine days for his organisation, in which American investigators arrested seven FIFA officials on charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering amid claims of 'systemic and deep-rooted' corruption.

After the incident, the FIFA congress met at Zurich and Blatter was re-elected as president for a fifth term, only for him to announce that he would step down.
