Customs nab passenger with 15 kg of gold

Air Customs Preventive officers of Delhi Airport on suspicion intercepted two passengers, an Indian and a Malaysian national, while arriving from Kuala Lumpur by flight no. OD 205, after they had crossed the Customs Green Channel at T-3, IGI Airport, without making any declaration to Indian Customs at Red Channel.

They were subsequently diverted for scanning of their baggage at the X-ray machines installed at the Green Channel.

On detailed examination of their baggage trolley loaded with their checked-in as well as hand baggage, fifteen bars of gold total weighing 15 kg, having market value of Rs. 4.67 Crore, which were concealed in the layers of newspapers placed in the bucket of baggage trolley, were recovered, said Sanjay Mangal,Commissioner of Customs, IGI Airport New Delhi

 

The recovered gold was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 and the passengers were arrested under Section 104 of the Act ibid and remanded to judicial custody.

Further investigation is under process.
