The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday took suo-moto cognisance of reports of the death of a 51-year old man who was stabbed to death allegedly for objecting to lewd comments and gestures made by a group of men on his daughter in West Delhi's Moti Nagar area on May 11.
The man's 19-year-old son, who also sustained severe stab injuries in the incident, is currently battling for life at a hospital here.
As per the Commission, the incident occurred when the victim and his 24-year-old daughter were returning after visiting the doctor. The alleged harassers passed obscene remarks and gestures at the girl. When the father complained of the harassment, he was badly beaten and stabbed to death.
The DCW has asked Delhi Police to submit a report by May 17 in the matter.
The Commission said it is extremely shocked and perturbed by the gravity of the offence committed by the men.
The Commission has asked West district Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to provide it information regarding the case. "Has any complaint of harassment, eve-teasing, molestation etc. had been received against these men in the past. If yes, please provide action taken report on each, details of FIR registered in the matter along with copy of the FIR, whether the group of boys who allegedly molested the girl have been booked under appropriate sections of law, details of arrest of each of the accused persons, current status report on the investigation into the matter," the DCW said.
