Al Jazeera reported that the explosion near the eastern city of Karvina occurred on Thursday at a depth of 800 meters.
"Due to yesterday's mine disaster, 13 miners lost their lives - 11 Poles and two Czechs," Ostrava-Karvina Mines (OKD) spokesman Ivo Celechovsky said at a televised news conference.
The injured have been undergoing treatment in the hospital.
"Unfortunately, we have reached a point where it was impossible to move forward because there was a fire raging and zero visibility," said Boleslav Kowalczyk, Managing Director of the OKD.
