Delhi HC stays ban on cow slaughter, beef sale

The Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed a PIL seeking a ban on cow slaughter and the sale of beef and its products across the national capital region (NCR).
The plea was termed as 'misconceived' by the bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath
The plea, which was filed by a Hindu monk, reportedly sought to enact a law in Delhi similar to the 1932 Ranbir Penal Code, applicable in Jammu and Kashmir, which states that slaughter of cows and milch animals was punishable with up to 10 years of imprisonment as well as a financial penalty.
The petitioner referred to recent directions of the Himachal Pradesh and the J-K High Courts to support his claims.
