Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Friday said that special security plans have been worked out for the protection of all religious places in the national capital, especially churches.

"We are always ready to protect the places of religious worship. A delegation met the Home Minister after which he directed me to make tight security arrangements at the places of worship, especially churches. For that, we have further improved our security arrangements. The patrolling has also been increased at required places," Bassi said.

"Special security plans have also been worked out for the upcoming festival of fasting, wherein our Christian brothers and sisters fast for 40 long days, so that no individual or group faces any problem in their religious proceedings," he added.

In wake of the recent attacks on churches in the national capital, a delegation from the Christian community was assured by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday that the ruling dispensation at the Centre would never tolerate any discrimination in the name of caste, colour, language or religion.

"The HM instructed the Delhi CP to make proper arrangements for the security of churches and other places of worship. HM also instructed the authorities to conduct impartial inquiry into the recent reports of 'attacks on churches' in Delhi," Home Minister's Office tweeted on Thursday.

Since December 2014, five churches in the national capital have been attacked.

St. Alphonse Church in Vasant Kunj area was the latest one to be vandalised and desecrated by unknown persons on February 2.
