Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said that an experienced and credible person like former IPS officer Kiran Bedi joining his party would strengthen the saffron party.
Jaitley said the BJP has always made an effort that experienced, credible and good people of the society get associated with it.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has always made an effort that experienced, credible and good people of the society get associated to our party," Jaitley said.
"And since the last two to three decades, compared to other parties, we are in this continuous effort." he added.
Hailing Bedi's decision to join the BJP, Jaitley said, "We welcome her to our party and believe that the BJP will get strengthened with the joining of such experienced and credible person".
"The people who work outside the political spheres, but those who have earned name and credibility in their own fields, they should come to politics and join the party. And this has been the speciality of our party," Jaitley said.
"Keeping this purpose in mind, the party was in contact with Kiran Bedi ji and we are glad that she has decided to join the Bharatiya Janata Party," he added.
Bedi, who was a prominent member of Team Anna, was formally inducted into the BJP in the presence of party chief and other top leaders.
There is speculation that the BJP could field her against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi assembly constituency in the elections next month.
