Hours after a gang rape and murder accused died in police custody, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday assured police investigation into the matter.
"Police is investigating the matter. Guards on duty at that time are called for interrogation. Action will be taken against them," Singh told the media.
Earlier in the day, villagers pelted stones and staged protest outside Kotkhai Police Station after one of the six accused in gang rape and murder of minor girl died in custody.
According to the police, the person was murdered by another accused.
At least six people were arrested last week in connection with the gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Kotkhai region of Shimla district.
The victim, who was a student at Mahasu government school in Kotkhai, was returning back from school when she was kidnapped and raped on July 4.
Two days later, police recovered her body from Halaila forests of Kotkhai.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry in the case.
