A study has suggested that even a plain window in an office is enough to uplift the general mood of the workers and make them more productive.

The study, which was conducted by the University of Salford and architects Nightingale Associates, showed that daylight and natural ventilation can have a significant impact on a person's productivity, Metro.co.uk reported.

The study discovered that classroom environment can affect a child's academic progress by nearly 25 percent.

Paul King, chief executive of the UK Green Building Council, said that people only started to take health and safety more seriously a few years ago and now it is an essential part of the construction of buildings.

However, King believes that business owners don't just want to hear how sustainable buildings can reduce their energy bills, but how it affects their outcome.

He asserted that if you tell people that by designing and operating a "green" building like they are going to get an improvement of 4 percent in the productivity of the people, they will suddenly be talking about huge figures.
