Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that India cannot be prosperous and developed as long as the farmers of the country are not flourishing.

Speaking at a function organized by Bhartiya Kisan Union on the occasion of farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait's birth anniversary, Singh said that the farmers should never feel weak and helpless.

"I understand the conditions under which you are living. I know what you go through when crop fails, rain gets delayed or when you do not get fair price for your produce. I come from a rural family and I understand your problems," he said.

"If the farmers of India stay united then no force in this world can shake them.We want to see developed and prosperous India, but let me tell you that it will not be possible till the farmers of the nation become prosperous. We must improve the condition of farmers, we must ensure that they get fair price for their produce," he added.

Singh also said that at least one person in a farmer family should be involved in a profession other than farming, as it would help the family during difficult times.
