Malaysian Airlines MH17 was reportedly diverted from its path to the war-torn area in Easter Ukraine to avoid thunderstorms in southern Ukraine.

Nico Voorbach, a pilot who flew the same path earlier, said that bad weather conditions may have forced the pilot to change the aircraft's route.

The plane's path had been permitted by authorities, said Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai Malaysian Transport Minister.

MH17 had not strayed into restricted airspace but the war rules on ground had been broken in Eastern Ukraine that resulted in the calamity, said the Minister.

Izham Ismail Malaysia Airlines director of operations said that the pilot had never requested to change the plane's route.

Meanwhile the Western countries along with European Union and U.S. urge Russia to assume responsibility of the MH17 crash, reports the Daily Mirror.
