Morgan Freeman's step-granddaughter E'Dena Hines was found dead outside her New York City home on August 16.
Police has confirmed that the actor's 33-year-old granddaughter was found lying on the street and had suffered multiple stab wounds to her torso, reported TMZ.com.
It is being said that Hines was later rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead and a 30-year-old man was taken into custody by the police at the scene.
Grieving his granddaughter's death, the 78-year-old actor said that her star will continue to shine bright in their hearts, thoughts and prayers and she may rest in peace.
