Passengers were left stranded at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Friday, after flights were delayed due to heavy rains along the nation's western coast, especially in Mumbai and the Konkan region.

The rains are expected to continue for some more days.

In the last 24 hours, Mumbai has recorded 283 mm of rainfall, which pushes the total received so far in June to 537 mm.

Bombay High Court Chief Justice Mohit S. Shah had earlier in the day declared a public holiday for all courts in the city due to the excessive rain, which has disrupted normal life.

According to reports, several flights have either been delayed or are being diverted due to heavy water logging.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has reportedly asked residents not to venture out of their homes unless 'absolutely necessary'.

The BMC had earlier ordered schools in Mumbai to close in view of the heavy rain and problems related to water logging.

The heavy overnight rain has disrupted local train services and traffic in several parts of the city has been moving at a snail's pace.
