The signing of the peace accord between the NDA Government and the NSCN (IM) is being seen as a positive step that would bring in much-needed peace and prosperity in the northeast region.

Nagas residing in Nagaland and other north eastern states are extremely happy with the development and are hopeful of having a brighter future.

Around ten thousand Nagas from Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh recently gathered at the Hebron Camp in Dimapur for the 69th Naga Independence Day celebration where they overwhelmingly welcomed the accord.

Addressing the event, NSCN (IM) leader Thuingaleng Muivah expressed his gratitude towards the government of India for reaching an understanding and accepting the Naga history.

The two sides have reached a framework agreement within which a final solution will now be worked out.

Muivah, who is the General Secretary of the NSCN (IM), said, "We have got to appreciate them (the Government of India). When they respect our rights, let us appreciate them. When they appreciate our rights, let us take a step from our side to come closer to each other. That is the only way to seek solution."

Panjam Wangsu, Vice President of the Wancho Students' Union, said, "Recently, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Naga Peace Accord has been signed. We are very happy."

Representatives from apex Naga civil organizations, including the Naga Hoho, ENPO, Naga Mothers Association, Naga Students' Federation, and United Naga Council have also welcomed the peace accord and expressed hope for development in the future.

Dr. Rosemary, Advisor, Naga Mother's Association, said, "We have been a very strong pressure group in asking to bring a resolution to the Naga peace talks. The peace deal definitely is a positive signal and as Naga Mothers' we are very positive and looking forward to something inclusive and a sustainable deal."

Shikata Chishi, a local resident, said, "I am very happy that the peace accord has been signed."

The signing of the peace accord with the largest insurgent outfit of the Northeast is expected to bring long-pending peace and accelerate the process of development in the region.
