One more candidate dead during police recruitment drive

At least five candidates have died till now in the Mumbai police recruitment drive which has attracted thousands of aspirants from across the state. Twenty four year old candidate, Gahininath Latpate, passed away in Mulund's Platinum hospital, where he was admitted after falling ill during training.

Member of Parliament, Kirit Somaiya, questioned the carelessness behind the unfortunate deaths, saying, "Can we bare this much of carelessness? We went to high court also, who is to be blamed for this? I will file a criminal complaint tomorrow but we want the government to investigate this."

The aspiring candidates have to reportedly put up with lack of proper lodging and facilities. Some of them allegedly sleep on the floors and have to train hard during the searing summer heat.
