Officials in the Prime Minister's Office have decided to contribute a day's salary as relief for the flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.
All PMO officers and staff are voluntarily contributing a day's salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund as a gesture of solidarity with the flood victims of that state.
Meanwhile, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Jitendra Singh, has reached Srinagar to monitor relief and rescue operations, which have been accelerated with water levels receding.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had last night directed the Union Home Ministry to send senior officers from Delhi and other states to coordinate the relief operations with local administration in the area.
Prime Minister Modi, who reviewed the relief operations in Jammu and Kashmir at a high-level meeting in New Delhi yesterday night, had stressed on providing basic necessities like food and water to people severely affected by the calamity.
A team of central officials led by Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami will also be reaching Srinagar shortly to coordinate the relief and rescue operations.
Over 96,000 people have been rescued by the armed forces and NDRF so far.
Hectic efforts are also underway to gradually restore the snapped telecom links which is hampering the rescue work.
