Pulwama encounter: 1 terrorist gunned down

A terrorist was neutralised in a brief exchange of fire with the security forces in Hafoo Reshipora area of Tral in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday.

A cordon and search operation was launched earlier in the day jointly by the police and security forces based on credible inputs about the presence of terrorists in Hafoo Reshipora area of Tral township.

During the cordon operation, the search party was fired upon by terrorists and was immediately retaliated by security forces.

In the ensuing encounter, one terrorist was neutralised and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. His identity and affiliation are being ascertained.

 

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. The police has registered a case and initiated an investigation in the matter.

In the wake of the encounter, police have appealed to citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
