Pre monsoon showers in the capital brought relief to the residents after days of heavy sweating due to rising temperature.

Social media also erupted with joy as the temperature dropped due to rainfall.

A twitter user said, "That looks like more than we got here last night...but life's good here too..Achche din..."

Delhi has been experiencing downpours from past two days including the NCR regions.

Expressing her happiness, a resident of Noida, Nirtika Pandita said, "I am very happy after getting a relief after so many days and thank god for no more sweating."

Another resident Aakash who dwells in the RK Puram area of Delhi said, "It feels very nice after the heat wave which has been troubling us for so many days. Today I will definitely go out with my friends, it will be like an icing on the cake."

May and June are usually the hottest months of the year in India with temperatures often in the range of 42 to 47 degrees Celsius at many places.

The Indian Meteorological Department had forecast below-average rainfall in 2014 due to an emerging El Nino in which warm water rises to the surface of the Pacific Ocean.
