Russia's Defense Ministry has reportedly revealed that two 'ballistic missiles' have been detected in the Mediterranean.

According to the Defense Ministry spokesman, the missile launch was detected at 06:16 GMT by a radar in the southern Russian city of Armavir, and is said to strike somewhere between the central and eastern Mediterranean, RiaNovosti reported.

He added that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had reported the launch to President Vladimir Putin.

However, the Russian Embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus said it did not have any information about the launch.

The source and location of the launch of the two missiles is still unknown.

Earlier, President Barack Obama had enlisted two powerful Republican senators to help in his effort to win congressional support to carry out a military strike on Syria.
