Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan launched the mascot for Sangam, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by brand Arise India Ltd, to safeguard the future of the girl child, in New Delhi.

On the occasion, The 'Mausam' actress expressed her strong views about the status of women and said, "Honestly the atmosphere of India today is something where we don't respect women and girls. And this is really sad because we call India Mother India and during Diwali we worship Devi's and that's the most important festival of India. Everything we do is to show respect to women in the female form and we are disrespecting them only. So I think it's a great cause, it's a great way of empowering girls and women and mothers and children and saying that girls are equal to men and may be even better."

The Pakistani actor, who is marking his Bollywood debut with 'Khoobsurat', highlighted the important roles a woman plays in men's life and said, "I think women not only play a professional role but she is the creator for everything that happens in a man's life. So the trophy actually goes to her, be it a mother or a daughter or a sister or a wife or a friend. I think it is a woman who actually has the courage and strength to make men what they are," he said.

The duo will soon be seen together in 'Khoobsurat' which is set to release on September 19.
